English 2

Assignment 1 Part 2

Task

Firstly, I had to choose a partner. There should be no more than two in a
group because when a class has an odd number of students, there may be one group with three

students in it and you will then do three paintings.
Secondly, I had to decide on art exhibition that my group would like to visit. There are
three exhibitions such as
No Talking PointsBingkai Berangkai by Jalaini Abu Hassan and Figure Out. My group chose No Talking Points. Next, we had to use the following structure to help organize what we learn about the selected artwork. As we go through the process, we took notes on the relevant information that you discover. We also used the following structure to help ourselves organize what we learn about the selected artwork. As we go through the process, we took notes on the relevant information you have discovered.

Aim

Through this project, students will be able to follow a structured method of critiquing an art work to discover its substance and meaning. The structure for "reading a painting" involves four distinct steps. The students will DESCRIBE the artwork in terms of its literal content and artistic elements. The students will ANALYZE the artwork in terms of how the artist used the principles of design to manipulate the content to provoke meaning. The students will INTERPRET the work on the basis of what they have already discovered
about the work in the first two steps. They will consider not only the literal descriptions but also the emotional content and the use of symbols and allegories to arrive at the message or meaning in the work. The students will make a  JUDGMENT about the work's worth based on the information they have gathered about the work. Judgments must be supported by what was learned through the "reading" process as they apply to established criteria. The work will be written up in  a  1000-1200 word  essay  comparing the two chosen paintings. To cite references, if  they have referred to  any, according to the APA citation method accurately and effectively.

Reflection

After completing this assignment, I was able to demonstrate the ability to ‘read’ a  painting based on the steps listed below in the methodology section. I was also able to demonstrate the ability to compare/contrast, analyse and synthesize information about the two chosen in a longer essay and explain them clearly and logically. Besides that, I was able to communicate my ideas in a clear, logical and appropriate academic English.

Assignment 2

Task

For this assignment, we had to form into groups with no more than 4 members each. Then, we need to choose a topic/area. We need to choose the specific trade and business. After that, we had to fill in the research report form provided on TiMES with our research questions and show the lecturer to ensure you are on the right track by Monday, week 11. Once our research questions have been approved, we had to prepare a questionnaire and interview questions by Monday, week 12. Go on our research trip/visit week at the end of 14 and conduct our research accordingly. Then, we had to see the lecturer again to submit feedback during the trip as per trip itinerary. We had to work on a draft to show the lecturer by Thursday, week 15. Lastly, we had to submit the final version of the research report by 2 p.m. Thursday, week 17.
