Effective Public Communication

Project 1

Task

For this assignment, we were required to do a research on a particular place, which we chose Petaling Street. The research was focused on the arts, the food and the activities done at the place. Apart from that, we had to create a blog containing at least 20 pictures and maximum 30 pictures, and each picture should contain up to 30 captions.

Aim

The objective of this project is to apply the principles of communication and behavior with others. Besides that, this project requires us to become more aware of the importance of cultural differences and respect other cultures as well to build healthy relationships among humans. We were required to communicate clearly using academic English so the people can understand.

Reflection

Through this project, I was able to improve my photography skills. I was also able to witness a lot of cultures. Thus, I was able to communicate with people more clearly and more understandable and more importantly, I improved my English.

Project 2

Task

In assignment 1, we are required to produce a photo blog with five members in a group.  The photo blog consisted of 25 to 30 photos of a particular scene at one location of our choice. For my group, we chose the historical place in Thailand, as the location for our shooting. Each photo was captioned with proper description and to give the readers a clear image of what inspired us to take the photo. We did a presentation in order to explain to our readers of what concept we used in the blog and the clear explanation of each photo taken. We captured 27 photos for various aspects as required, which include:  

a. People –  ethnic background, gender, age, description of clothes.

b. Food – types of food available or food presentation at hawker stalls or restaurants.

c. Activities – kinds of activities found in the surrounding of the suggested location.

d. Cultural conservation on buildings – Façade, interior and exterior design of the building and ornamentation.

Aim

The objective of this project is to demonstrate the principles of communication and behavior in analyzing interaction with others, both at individual and at group levels. It is also to be aware of the importance of cultural differences and respect cultural differences as well as to build healthy and positive relationships with fellow students, co-workers and clients. Other than that, this project helps to communicate the relevant ideas in a clear, logical and appropriate academic English. It is also to be able to view the an issue from different perspective. Thus, this project is also to develop blog designing skills and able to produce a well-planned layout for a blog.

Reflection

I really enjoyed myself while working on this project because I really love taking photo and blogging. From this project, I learnt that to work well with other members is crucial to make the project a successful one. My members and I coordinated really well and went for a trip in Thailand. We were assigned in taking different aspects of photos and we chose them accordingly. Besides, I also learnt the importance to be able to communicate via visual presentation. It is a key for us to determine the beauty of the scenery and to be able to capture the moment at the right time. The concepts of the photos taken has to be clear in order to provide the correct message to the audience. Besides, I learnt that we have to appreciate the culture as it is a treasure for us as Malaysian. To be able to realize the beauty of the culture and to capture it is truly a bless.

Project 3

Task

For this project, my group members and I had to create a 3 A3 size comic strip which describes events related to your daily life, special occasions and events in the campus. This project can range from talking about scenes in a classroom, completing an assignment, preparing for an exam, waiting outside a lecture hall or any interesting incidences that is taking place in the campus. The comic strip may be illustrated, or we can print characters to glue on our comic strip. We may also cut out your characters from a magazine or newspaper.  We may even do a combination of illustrations and cut-outs from the Simpsons to NBA basketball players. We may base it on your favorite TV show, literary characters, or even invent our own. This group assignment should consist of 4 to 5 people per group.

Aim

The aim of this assignment is to demonstrate the principles of communication and behavior in analyzing interaction with others, both at individual and at group levels.


Reflection


I was able to apply the principles of communication and behavior in analyzing interaction with others, both at individual and at group levels. Besides that, I was also more aware of the importance of cultural differences and respect cultural differences as well as to build healthy and positive relationships with fellow students, co-workers and clients. I can also communicate the relevant ideas in a clear, logical and appropriate academic English.
